Luciano Moggi, the man at the heart of the 2006 Italian match-fixing scandal, was sentenced to 1 1/2 years in prison by a Rome court on Thursday.
He won't have to serve his sentence, however. The evidence against him came from 2006 when an amnesty had been granted. Geez. Match-fixer Moggi sentenced to jail term

Yeah, I pulled against the Italians these last couple of World Cups, because of their weak response to the game-fixing scandal. I'm sure an Italian would say that's just a case of me being a crazy, moralizing Americans. But if a sports event is fixed, then it's not a competition. It becomes sports entertainment, like the WWE -- except with really lousy collisions. The flops are the same, though.

I'm sure it's gotta be nice to be sentenced to time in prison and then not even have to serve it. What was the deal with the 2006 amnesty? Did that only apply to this case, or was it applied to every court case in Italy?
