It seems like, everywhere I've looked recently, there's Katy Perry and this "I Kissed a Girl" song.

First, I heard a trance remix of this song. Then I saw her performing the song live (on tv) at one of those Times Square New Years celebrations. Then I started hearing the song coming in and out of commercials on television and radio. Then somebody was singing I Kissed A Girl or it was referenced in some way on American Idol earlier.

I guess my question is: Is this the newest thing out there, or am I like six months behind and is every hip person in America already sick of Katy Perry?

I had to look it up myself, but it appears the single was released about 8 months ago.

She started out as a Christian gospel artist, but has now morphed into this. Amazing what can be done with a record company's PR machine behind you.

well actually I remember the song around September or so. It's very catchy! LOL Of course I don't get to listen to it often when the kids are in the car. Her other song Hot and Cold is very good as well.

She's gotten a fair amount of criticism for this and her other hit single "Ur So Gay." Some have accused her of homophobia. Others have been critical of her using lesbian imagery simply to sell records (which is no doubt true - but it worked).
