Default James Harrison Named Defensive Player of the Year

James Harrison, linebacker for the top-rated Steelers defense, has bee named Defensive Player of the Year by the AP. DeMarcus Ware of the Cowboys finished second in the voting.

Ware got screwed. He had more sacks, so why didn't he get the nod?

Can somebody help me understand this?

Good question. I would say they took points off for a guy who didn't make the playoffs, but they gave Offensive Player of the Year to Drew Brees.

East Coast bias.

I could have seen them giving the prize to Ed Reed, but he missed several weeks of the regular season - so maybe that hurt his chances.
