Is Joaquin Phoenix Just Another Actor in Meltdown, or is This a Hoax?

Did you catch the now-infamous Joaquin Phoenix interview on Letterman? If not, here's the interview:

Many are wondering if the whole thing isn't an act, since brother-in-law Casey Affleck is following Phoenix and shooting everything for a documentary (supposedly about his rap career).

I'm betting that it's all a prank. It also wouldn't surprise me if Letterman was in on the whole thing. Still, it was a pretty funny interview. Too bad all Letterman's guests aren't this noteworthy.

I also think it's a gag. If he was 20, I might think this was real. But as far as I know, Phoenix has been around for years and never exhibited any kind of craziness on this level. What a coincidence that his brother-in-law was filming the night he went nuts. I'll even bet that Letterman was in on it.
