If you could get the car under some sort of cover would help plus if you get some sort of safe heater installed to keep the interior warm it would not be as damp. If you do decide to use desiccant packs, remember that they need to replaced or recharged (dried out) on a daily basis.

Personally. I would have it removed. Especially if it's causing any discomfort. If it's not too bad and it's external, I believe the doctor can remove it right in the office.
