Default Do the Twilight Books Suck?

Let me say right up front that I've never read any of the Twilight books. That's why I wanted to know if they were any good or not.

Here are the reasons why I fear they might suck:

1. Originally aimed at young kids, but specifically little girls. Somehow, it caught on with a larger audience.

2. The author claimed to have never written much before the first novel. She was inspired by a dream and then cranked out the first one in a very short period of time. That led me to wonder about the quality of the prose.

Can any Twilight veterans help me out here? Do you think the series is actual quality literature, or is it more like the Harry Potter books (not particularly well-written, but entertaining enough to be enjoyed by people of all ages)?

I think it's okay for women to like these books, but I can't believe some dudes are actually reading this stuff. It's a damned teen romance novel, for cryin' out loud!

You might as well read one of those books with Fabio painted on the cover.

Default Come To Grandpa

I'll give you my opinion in a month or two. I'm in a book club where someone made that their selection, and it's on the schedule for March. So in about six weeks, I'll be able to proudly say I've read the first Twilight novel.

There's no way I would read it otherwise, 'cause it seems like it's for teen and tween girls. For that reason, I imagine the club's discussion of the book should be a lot of fun. From what I understand, it's about some hundred year old vampire who goes to high school. Why, why, why would a vampire older than my grandfather be attending high school? To pick up girls?

Seems more perverse than romantic, but I guess I'll get the full story when I read it. I'm sure there's a perfectly reasonable explanation.

Well in the movie the vampire moves around alot and attends different schools because when he turned into a vampire he was still high school age. As for it being for tweens, my friend who is 33 is on book 4 and she loves it. I have two other friends in their 30's as well that swears by them. I may break down and buy the first one or try to download the audio on limewire or something.
