If by 'yoga' you mean asana (postures), here is my favorite, fairly succinct, explanation covering both physical and mental/spiritual benefits:
“Practice of asana strengthens the muscles, increases flexibility and strength in the spine and joints, and encourages proper alignment while releasing tension and fatigue.
It also promotes healthy functioning of internal organs.
